For the photo series My Mother’s Afternoons (1995-ongoing) Berchem asked his mother, a retired teacher, to make photographs of the television programs she watches during the course of the day. The snapshots of talk shows, lifestyle and other programs that came out of this afford an overview of the typical afternoon programming of American television, and at the same time offer image of the afternoons of the artist’s mother.
