The Inverleith Series deals with the finite limits between painting and sculpture and its relation with the human body. Berchem attempts to explore his own physicality trough painting. In this case, the wood panels are made in relation with the artists measurements and a black circle points to three·specific parts of his body. These circles signify and eliminate the presence of the artist’s mind, physicality, and sentiments. At the same time they introduce a pictorial reality as a metaphysic presence of the artist. |
